‘Seanachai’ means storyteller in Gaelic and everyone who knows Ireland, will be very familiar with the wonderful folklore, overflowing with tales handed down generations alongside the musical ballads featuring the Irish and their lands.
David and Kevin have been travelling Ireland and sourcing the finest Irish Cheddar for decades. Between them, they know many of the pubs from Waterford to Clonakilty and Cork to Dublin. They love the storytelling that goes with these trips – and their singing voices aren’t bad either!
The finest cheeses are formed by the coming together of landscape, tradition and human hands. And, Seanachai Extra Mature Cheddar is the very best of Irish cheddar.
Like all our Millbrook cheddars, Seanachai is hand-selected and like its name implies, connects us to the ancient landscape, the history and the people of Ireland, binding together all of these things and aged to give character, flavour and texture.
As a business, we have a great love for Ireland and an admiration for the farmers and cheese makers there. The spring calving methods, favoured by Ireland’s farmers, make the most of the natural ebb and flow of the seasons, meaning that the cows are largely grass fed during the milking season between Spring and Autumn, resulting in gorgeous, tasty cheeses.
We source Irish Cheddar for bulk, Retail and Foodservice customers in various formats, for sale in the UK and for export. Of course, as with all our cheese we grade every batch we buy delivering consistency and quality, every time.
